The disease and its causes. This is a chronic, recurrent skin eruption which seems to run in families. The cause is unknown. Attacks are triggered by emotional stress or shock. Children often develop it after a strep infection. Sometimes it appears at the site of a skin injury. It is neither infectious nor contagious, and there is little and no itching. Both sexes, in all age groups, are subject to psoriasis. And it is more common in patients who drink a good deal of liquor.
