Carrying extra weight after menopause can have serious health consequences, too, including increasing your risk for heart attack, stroke, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Not only that, but according to the Mayo Clinic, menopause weight gain can also increase your risk of breast cancer.
